Home to the Halflings of Mathandria. Sovin was once simply known as Vin, which meant Paradise in the language of the halfling people, the entire island was surround by a magical barrier created by their deity shortly before she passed from the material plane.
During the Zariger reign of oppression they tried many times to reach the island they could see beyond the barrier, but the magic was simply too strong. The barrier kept them safe until one steel-clad ship of the Zariger empire which was carrying thousands of Orc slaves crashed into the barrier during a mighty storm. Bodies washed ashore, the Zariger perished, their heavy armour dragging them to their deaths. The Orcs however wore no clothes and many hundreds survived.
The halflings on the island knew not of Orc kind, and did not protect themselves at they should have done, the large numbers of now free Orcs quickly took root on the eastern shore, and this started a thousand year war. A war that was only put on hold when they built a mighty stone wall to divide the island in two, a sacrifice of half their land to keep the Orcs at bay.
